Young athletes from Humboldt and area came out to the Humboldt Collegiate Institute to hone their volleyball skills with coaches from Lakeland College last weekend.
The camp was for students in grades seven to 12 and taught basic volleyball skills such as bumping, setting, attacking and blocking.
"Hopefully we improved some of their skills and taught them something about the game that they didn't already know," said one of the coaches, Laura Popplestone. "If they're going into a high school season or school season, it kind of prepares them for that."
Popplestone has run four camps so far this summer and likes keeping up with the game when she's not actively playing.
"It just keeps you involved in the game while you're in the off-season and you can spread your knowledge to other people," she said.
The sessions were split up into grades seven to nine and 10 to 12. There were about 28 kids in the younger group and 53 in the older group. This year marks the camp's seventh year of being offered in Humboldt.
"We hope that they can improve a skill or kind of get them ready for their season. If we can teach them one thing this week that they don't already know, that's kind of our goal."
