After much anticipation, the new Humboldt Co-op food store on Highway 5 West will be opening this weekend, right in time for Summer Sizzler.

It's curtains for the Humboldt Co-op grocery store on Main Street.

The store officially closed this past Saturday, with $3000 worth of food items, non-perishable and deleted products, being donated to the local food bank.

The food was collected and brought to the shelter on Sunday, as this week will be a busy one for the local co-operative: the new grocery store's grand opening on Highway 5 West will be this Saturday, right in the middle of the highly anticipated Summer Sizzler.

Phil Griffeth, general manager of the Humboldt Co-op, said doors will open at 11 a.m.

There will be no immediate grand-opening specials, just the regular flyer but Griffeth said there will certainly be hot new deals in the imminent future.

"For now, we just want people to come in, grab a cart and get a feel for the new store," Griffeth said.

With everything from updated software for the employees, to new deli and bakery sections, the Co-op food store has received quite the modern facelift.
