WITCHEKAN LAKE FIRST NATION — Update: The dangerous persons alert for Witchekan Lake First Nation issued by the Spiritwood RCMP has been cancelled.
Kelly Witchekan was arrested in Saskatoon late yesterday evening. 33-year-old Melvin Starblanket has not been located. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is five foot nine and 160 pounds.
Police continue to look for Melvin Starblanket. The public should remain vigilant.

Update: The dark red Mustang has been located and investigation has determined it was not involved in the firearms discharge incident. The scope of this investigation has changed and the alert is now focused on the Witchekan Lake First Nation and surrounding area as defined in the alerting system.

Investigators have identified two male suspects and are actively trying to locate them.
Kelly Witchekan is 22 years old. He has brown hair and eyes, and is five foot nine and 140 pounds. Melvin Starblanket is 33 years old. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is five foot nine and 160 pounds. Both have connections to Witchekan Lake First Nation.
Spiritwood RCMP continues to investigate. Further emergency alerts will be sent to areas where public safety risk is identified, if required. There will a continued increased police presence on Witchekan Lake First Nation and surrounding areas.
Investigational updates will be provided when available. At this time, this is not believed to be connected to the James Smith Cree Nation investigation.
Residents in Witchekan Lake First Nation should continue to take appropriate precautions.
Original release: Spiritwood RCMP are investigating reports of shots fired on Witchekan Lake First Nation.
RCMP say several armed suspects are at large. They may be in a mid-2000s dark red Mustang.
RCMP advise those in the area to seek immediate shelter/shelter in place. Do not leave a secure location. Use caution allowing others into your residence. DO NOT APPROACH suspicious persons. Do not pick up hitch hikers. Report suspicious persons, emergencies or info to 911. Do not disclose police locations.
At this time, it’s not believed to be connected to the James Smith Cree Nation investigation.
Because the suspects are believed to have access to a vehicle, the alert has been extended province-wide.
