A Saskatchewan woman who was fined $2,800 for not complying with a Public Health Order has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Regina Police Service, they issued the ticket on April 6 to a 23-year-old woman.

Police issued the ticket after they were informed by Public Health that the woman wasn’t complying with the mandatory 14-day self-isolation period.

“Typically, a police service would not give out health information, but it has been deemed necessary to confirm the individual’s COVID-19-positive status in this case, given the circumstances we all face with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the Regina Police in a statement April 7.

They said, however, that they won’t release her name.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency launched a complaint line on March 25 where people can report someone they suspect of violating the COVID-19 health order.

As of April 8, there are 271 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are eight people in hospitals across the province with COVID-19. Six of those are receiving inpatient care and two are in intensive care.

Of the 271 COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan, 119 are from travellers, 90 are community contacts including mass gatherings and 16 have no known exposure.
