NIPAWIN — Nipawin’s Jubilee Arena is receiving about $1.2 million in federal and provincial funding to add four permanent dressing rooms with washrooms and showers.

A man who escaped custody while appearing in Meadow Lake Provincial Court is seeking bail. Christopher Gilbert Ernest, 23, escaped from the courthouse and fled on April 26. He was arrested in Edmonton on May 3 and brought back to Saskatchewan.

Federal funding has come through for a number of Saskatchewan projects including an important one for the Town of Battleford.

Vaccines Reported An additional 9,124 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 527,257.

WATSON — Roof repairs, washroom renovations and emergency exit doors replacements are a few renovations happening at the Watson Arena, which received funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

MELFORT — Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks to give electrical access to eight campsites at the Melfort Campground. A total of $35,350 was previously allocated in the city’s capital budget for the project.

UPDATE: The RCMP Major Crime Unit-South has concluded the abduction investigation from the weekend and it’s been determined no charges will be laid.

A seven-day-average chart of active COVID-19 cases in the North West zone shows a levelling off after a sharp incline in April. Of the 249 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Saskatchewan on May 9, 18 are in the North West.
