It wasn’t quite the full 60-minute effort that Battlefords North Stars general manager and head coach Nate Bedford was hoping for Wednesday night.

There was a dramatic contrast of results for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings senior girls' volleyball team in their first two tournaments of the season.

The Humboldt Broncos opened their 2016-2017 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with a weekend sweep of the Notre Dame Hounds. The Broncos kicked off their season on home ice on Sept. 17 for the front half of a home-and-home with the Hounds.

With two pre-season games in the books, Battlefords AAA Stars head coach Darren Martens is enthused by the progress his squad has made in a short amount of time. “They are really playing more like a team,” Martens said.

Normally, 41 shots would be enough to win a hockey game. That wasn’t the case for the Battlefords North Stars in Yorkton Tuesday night.

The Wilkie Curling Club will be back on the ice this curling season. After last season’s tragic fire at the Wilkie Arena, many curlers were forced to go elsewhere and some chose not to curl at all.
