Humboldt ministerial Easter message: Easter seasons

"The resurrection is God the Father’s stamp of approval, His guarantee that the sacrifice of Jesus was legitimate and completely able to cover the price of our sin debt," said Pastor Greg Dermody of the Humboldt Alliance Church.

Easter occurs during spring, which I think is intentional on God’s part. Although South of the Equator it is autumn, so perhaps we shouldn’t push that too far!

Nevertheless, the theme of new life abounds this time of year and fits very well with the reality of the resurrection and the hope of eternity.

The resurrection is God the Father’s stamp of approval, His guarantee that the sacrifice of Jesus was legitimate and completely able to cover the price of our sin debt. While the believer has this hope of eternal life in Heaven, we have to live out our lives here on earth, with its many blessings and wonders, trials and challenges.

The one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God, rose from the dead, asks forgiveness of sin and bows to the Lordship of Jesus, is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5) and begins a new life. Yet we battle the old self and struggle to live a holy life in a world that taunts and temps us to sin.

Maybe that makes Easter South of the Equator during the fall season also intentional on God’s part. It is a season of transition to winter’s rest, with the promise of life after death, our own resurrection into God’s glory. One of the gifts of resurrection and ascension is the promised Holy Spirit, who makes our way ahead possible, our guide, comforter and teacher.

Happy Easter! May the risen Jesus risen, who holds the believer’s place in heaven, empower you to discover and walk in this hope through all seasons of your life.
