Dear Editor Demagogues, despots and the divine right types have been a puzzlement to me all my life. No doubt I overdosed as a child on the fable of the emperor with no clothes before I understood the concept of political allegory.

Sitting on a coffee table in our living are two thriving plants, one, a poinsettia, and the other, an assortment of spring flowers. So, big deal I say (and perhaps, you would too).

Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance.

Most gardeners are hopelessly addicted to seeing if “it will grow.” Even better if there is variety in what you are attempting to grow.

The shed was full. Happy cows lay deep in oat straw chewing their cuds as brother Bill quietly moved among them, checking for signs of calving.

My old neighbour Ed, who lives in Melville, Sask., is blunt about death. I shared with him that someone I treasured as my good friend died recently. I quoted Ed, the German Proverb, “That the death of a friend is equivalent to the loss of a limb.

Letter to the Editor

This week, the staff at our school took the Red Cross first-aid and CPR training course taught by my friend Kim Lines. She’s a dandy instructor and really knows her stuff. We all left the better for learning these life-saving techniques.

Probably, if not certainly, the thing I’ve struggled with more than anything during this past year, it’s been the removal of so many areas of service from my life.

Who remembers the Talkabouts, the Battlefords first rock and roll band? I don’t but I wish that I could, because we would be kindred spirits. When I was 17, I played in a band called Rick and the Raiders.
