SASKATOON – A 27-year-old woman, currently on probation for an arson to a Prince Albert memorial centre in 2022, is facing new charges after allegedly assaulting a 75-year-old woman with a gardening tool in Saskatoon.
Saskatoon Police Service responded to a community garden in the 3100 block of Arlington Ave. shortly after 5:10 p.m. on Aug. 21. According to police, the victim reported she was gardening when she was approached by an unknown woman who then assaulted her. The senior sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
The suspect, identified as Gina Pearl Beatty, fled the scene on foot but was located by officers in a nearby treeline and taken into custody.
Beatty now faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation. She was also wanted on outstanding arrest warrants in Prince Albert.
According to Prince Albert Provincial Court documents, Beatty was sentenced in August 2023 by Justice Hugh Harradence to three years of probation and given a Conditional Sentence Order (CSO) to be served in the community. At the time of her sentencing for arson, Beatty had already spent 455 days in jail.
On the new charges, Beatty was in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Aug. 26.
