UNITY — The Unity Senior Men’s Cardinal team has had only one loss thus far this season, and that was way back on June 3, when the Lashburn Cardinals beat them 8-5. Since then, they have won nine games in a row, including their first playoff game when they shut out the Mervin Flyers 10-0, July 10.

The Cards are expected to win the quarterfinal series against the Flyers but the final result of the best-of-three series could not be confirmed before press deadlines. Regardless the winner of the Unity vs. Mervin matchup will take on the winner of the Lashburn Cardinal and Oil City Duck quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, both the North Battleford Beavers and the Standard Hill Lakers have won their respective series, eliminating the Glaslyn Orioles and the Lloydminster Twins respectively.

The eight teams in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League have named their MVPs for the 2025 season. Unity’s pick was Tanner Huber, who ended the regular season with a .459 batting average, sixth best in the league. (This stat was adjusted after the last regular season game and after last week’s paper was printed.)

During the season, in 37 times at the plate, Huber’s hits included one home run and 10 RBIs (runs batted in). Huber also contributed on the pitcher’s mound in three of the Cardinals’ games.

Regarding Huber’s selection, manager/coach Cory Wildeman said, “Great year for Tan. His passion is contagious amongst his teammates. An error-free year and timely contributions at the plate made him an easy choice for team MVP.”

Note: the regular season end stats for Kaden Cey were also adjusted after the final game. Cey ended up in fifth place in the league in batting with an average of .469 at the plate, and he was fourth among the pitchers with an earned run average of 3.67.
