Technology additions part of Unity’s rink season and booking options

LiveBarn, SaskTel Select and online booking added features at the arena.

UNITY — Unity Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Feser has quickly adapted to her role. After a summer of positive reviews on Unity’s recreation programming and activity, the community will look towards Feser for her leadership in winter recreation options in the community.

The arena is back in action as the North West Terminal 3-on-3 hockey has begun and will run for two weeks. The 3-on-3 hockey action is a great warmup to the upcoming minor hockey season and regular season hockey will begin on completion of this event.

Unity Skating Club have also held registration and their season will start Oct. 13.

Unity Community Centre arena also offers public skating, shinny hockey and recreation hockey activity throughout the season.

The Unity Miners will also be part of arena action with their season set to begin Oct. 28.

Feser announces an exciting new addition to arena season that includes the streaming service, LiveBarn. The service allows hockey fans to never miss a moment as they can watch live and on demand from anywhere and any time, on any device.

“The arena is now going to offer SaskTel Select at both the arena and hall, which includes free WiFi for SaskTel users. This will be hooked up the first of October,” says Feser

The Unity Curling Club is holding their registration Oct. 11-12 and their curling season will begin by October’s end.

Feser says Ver is running the booth this year and he is very excited to get going.

Another option at the Community Centre is the return of the indoor walking program which begins Nov. 1 and will run to April 30. Providing the hall is not booked, the program will run weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3p.m.

Soon the outdoor arena boards will be erected and once the weather dictates outdoor ice this will be an additional recreation option.

Although not under Feser’s jurisdiction, there will be recreational pickleball and volleyball options at the two school gyms and interested parties can call the town office for contact information for either of these programs.

The town is looking forward to having an online booking system in place for private rink bookings soon. The new software will be the booking system for the swimming pool, the rink and the handivan once it is up and running.

Feser adds, “I am just excited to get year one under my belt and hoping for a smooth first year. Spencer Powell is leading the team of Kevin, Russell and Shaun this year at the arena.”

The arena season schedule is available on the town of Unity website as well as being included on the TVs in the lobby at the arena. Unity Rec Parks & Arena | Facebook will also carry the latest news and updates from the rink.
