The Unity Winter Carnival kicked off March 11, beginning with a broomball tournament on Friday evening. The event would be held for three days with lots of activities.

Metcalfe Pro Hardware in Unity held their one cent sale.

A public hearing was called for a community colleges program throughout the province.

Beaver Lumber in Macklin and Unity announced Larry Stang joining the business as the planned building sales rep for the area.

Delta Co-op was offering a selection of meat on sale from 59 cents a pound to 79 cents a pound as well as turkeys for 48 cents a pound and frying chickens for 45 cents a pound.

20 Years Ago

Zone 7 girls' hockey team took home gold at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in Humboldt. The team included Heather Robertson of Unity, Tarilie Pernitsky of Wilkie and Cami Wooster and Cara Wooster of Salvador.

Wilkie and District Parks, Culture and Recreation Department announced Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nestman were chosen for the 2001 Citizens of the Year.

Sask Party Leader Elwin Hermanson, along with MLAs Randy Weeks and Rudi Peters visited constituents in Unity.

The Unity Curling Club wrapped up their youth curling league with a parents vs. kids day.

Unity Minor Ball was getting ready to swing into the new season with registration set for mid-March.

Ducks Unlimited was reminding readers of the 20th annual banquet and auction to be held at the Unity Community Centre.
