Volunteer appreciation event returns to Wilkie

Town and Wilkie and District Health Foundation co-host event.

WILKIE — After a two-year absence a volunteer appreciation supper, sponsored by the town of Wilkie and Wilkie and District Health Foundation, returned to the Saskcan Community Centre April 26.

A meal was enjoyed by the volunteers, along with visiting friends and draws for door prizes donated by local businesses. It was a community effort to say "well done volunteers."

The evening acknowledged all volunteers — those who coach ball, hockey, soccer, deliver meals on wheels, drive the courtesy car, help at church and school and even help the neighbours when needed.

The past two years has seen events shut down because of the virus that circulated around the world, but that didn’t mean volunteers stopped helping. They made sure people were safe in their homes, picked and delivered groceries, took people to appointments, all the while wearing masks, hand sanitizing and keeping their distance.

This year, the event gave those very important people a well-deserved pat on the back,
