Warriors win season opener

High School football season underway for local teams

MACKLIN - The season opener started the season off on the right foot for the Unity Warriors as they defeated the Macklin Sabres 38-24.

“We had a slow start against Kindersley last week, so our goal last night was to get out to a quick start and try and control the game," Coach Kyle Clark says.

"Fortunately, our running back, Jared Abrams, was able to break a long TD run on our first play from scrimmage to get our feet underneath us. From there we tried to control the ball and the clock, and we were able to make gains on the ground and avoid turnovers.”

The Unity Warriors will play on the road in Eatonia Sept. 17 and will hold their home opener against the Wilkie Broncs in a night lights game Sept. 23.

The Wilkie Broncs will host Kerrobert Sept. 17 before they head down to the road to play familiar rivals, the Warriors Sept. 23.

The Macklin Sabres will play on the road against Kindersley Kobras Sept. 17.

The Kerrobert Rebels host their home opener against Eatonia Sept. 10. The team includes some Luseland players.

All regular season games wrap up Oct. 15 week before playoffs begin.
