It is with deep sadness that the family of Dora (Dodi) Genevia Shasko announces her passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was 71 years old and passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband, Danny, and family.
Born on January 18,1954, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Dora—affectionately known as “The Explorer” to friends and even strangers—lived with a free- spirited zest for life. She embraced every season of her journey with vibrancy, adventure, and an untamed spirit.
Dodi found joy in travelling, discovering new cuisines, and creating beauty through interior design of her homes. She especially loved preparing gourmet meals for her loved ones, which often led to lively dice games and laughter gathered around the table. Planning get-togethers and the “next great adventure” was one of her greatest delights.
Her passion for connection shone through in all her roles: devoted nurse, loving wife, loyal friend, cherished mother, and proud grandmother. She was deeply present in every moment, celebrating both life’s milestones and its everyday joys with equal devotion.
With quick wit, warm laughter that filled a room, and a playful spirit, Dodi lit up every gathering. Guided by her faith in God, she lived with compassion and love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and just the right touch of mischief. Her gypsy soul now soars freely on her next great adventure in heaven.
Dodi will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Danny Shasko of Mortlach, SK; son-in-law, Eric Bates of Edmonton; and her beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Evan Bates of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Tracey Bates; her parents, Young and Gladys Harmon; her sister, Norma Calvert; niece, Wanda Calvert; and nephew, Bobby Bohnke. She also leaves behind her sisters: Roseanne Bohnke of Chilliwack, BC; Beulah Kotzer of Hythe, AB; Connie Harmon of Grande Prairie, AB; and Laurene Harmon of Macklin, SK.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home in Moose Jaw. A graveside service will follow at the Mortlach Cemetery at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Special gratitude is offered to the doctors and nursing staff at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw for their compassionate care and for the meaningful moments when they took time to pray with Dodi and her family.
