REGINA — Those relaxing days of dipping a rod into an ice fishing hole are coming to a close and the Ministry of Environment advises the deadlines to remove ice fishing shelters are coming up: March 15 south of Highway 16 and March 31 to the north.
Ministry officials advise anglers to remove shelters before conditions become unsafe. They note spring weather can be unpredictable, leading to unsafe ice conditions, sometimes earlier than expected
Regulations require owners to remove all structures and litter from the ice. Shelters may not be left on the shore and must be transported away. The ministry considers abandoned a safety risk to all lake users.
