REGINA — Dozens of participants scaled down Hill Tower II in Regina on Saturday, all for a good cause.

Drop Zone YQR 2025 is a fundraising event for SaskAbilities programs and services for individuals experiencing disabilities.

“The money goes towards Camp Easter Seal, which is the only barrier-free camp in Saskatchewan. We also have Adaptive Technology, which allows us to create technology that assists individuals and makes their lives much easier. And then we have Summer Fun, which is kind of like a day program,” said Donna Mouflier, community relations co-ordinator with SaskAbilities.

Each participant is asked to raise $1,500 towards these services.

“So there are various ways that they can do it,” said Mouflier. “One way is selling raffle tickets. We've set up the system where if they have family and friends purchasing raffle tickets, they can actually select the participant's name. And those funds get applied towards their goal.”

Mouflier said participants have also raised money through bottle drives, steak nights and other events.

To prepare for scaling the tower, each participant is asked to do a practice rappel.

“That helps them with adjusting their fears.”

Safety measures are in place for participants, including checkpoints and harness checks.

Once a participant starts going down the tower, songs of their choice are played, and an announcer gives a brief description of them, including why they chose to participate.

Mouflier said she hopes the event can raise $150,000.

Anyone interested in participating in future events is encouraged to reach out to SaskAbilities.
