ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. — Team Sask announced Sunday that a Regina athlete would be one of the two outstanding competitors to lead Saskatchewan into the Closing Ceremonies of the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Three-time gold medalist in diving, Lila Stewart of Regina, and two-time gold medalist in para athletics, Brendan Cote-Williamson of Cote First Nation, were announced as the closing ceremony flagbearers for Saskatchewan.
Seventeen-year-old Stewart led the way for Team Sask in the second half of the Games, earning her first gold medal on Tuesday, Aug. 19th with a commanding performance in the Women’s Artistic Dive event.
The next day, she placed third in the 3m Springboard to earn bronze.
On Thursday, she returned to the top of the standings to take gold in the 1m Springboard.
Finally, on Aug. 24, she – along with teammates Kash Tarasoff and Isa Koop – put on a masterclass performance in the Team event, besting top competitors Quebec by 48.25 points to earn her third gold medal.
Cote-Williamson is from Cote First Nation and celebrated his 21st birthday at the Games – on the same day that he broke his own Athletics Canada national record in the T47 100m race. His top placing and time of 11.50 in that preliminary race carried him forward to Friday’s final, where he raced to a gold medal in a time of 11.77. On Saturday, the final day of track races at the Fortis Canada Games Athletic Complex, he ran 52.07 in the para ambulatory 400m to capture another gold medal.
