Regina gas prices drop, but don't make up for last week's spike

While oil prices remained relatively stable, refinery dynamics and the weakening Canadian dollar likely contributed to the upward pressure on fuel prices.

REGINA - After an 8.9 c/L jump a week ago due to a refinery outage in the United States, average retail gasoline prices in Regina have fallen 1.2 c/L in the past week, averaging 142.44 c/L Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 82 gas outlets in Regina.

This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.4 c/L in the last week to 138.23 c/L, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

“Canada’s national average inched up over the last week, with average gas prices rising in six provinces, led by notable increases in Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Quebec,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “While oil prices remained relatively stable in the low-$60s, regional refinery dynamics and the weakening Canadian dollar likely contributed to the upward pressure on fuel prices. As we move further into September, barring major disruptions like hurricanes or global conflict escalations, Canadians could still see some modest relief at the pump later this fall.”

Including the change in gas prices in Regina during the past week, prices Monday were 9.1 c/L lower than the same day one year ago and are 5.4 c/L higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 0.7 c/L during the last month and stands 15.5 c/L lower than this day one year ago.
