REGINA – Regina police are investigating after officers were called at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Aug. 11 to a residence in the 300 block of Smith Street for a report of a firearms offence. The caller said there were two males inside the residence with firearms and they wouldn’t allow anyone to leave.
Officers arrived on scene, established a perimeter and began to clear the residence. While this was taking place, a dog exited the residence and began to attack a Regina Police Service Canine Unit Police Service Dog (PSD).
An officer discharged their firearm at the dog, resulting in its death. The PSD suffered minor physical injuries.
At this time, police say this investigation is ongoing and there are no further details for release to the public.
