REGINA — The City of Regina is unveiling a new sign at A.E. Wilson Park to highlight steps residents can take for a bird-friendly city.
The city said the installation marks another step for Regina’s efforts in supporting bird conservation, while promoting a healthier, more sustainable urban environment.
“Birds are a vital part of our urban ecosystems and we all have a role to play in helping them thrive,” said Veronica Schroder, City of Regina coordinator of forestry, pest & horticulture.
“These signs help educate residents on small but impactful steps that contribute to a greener, more biodiverse Regina.”
This sign is one of 15 being installed across city parks via a partnership between Bird Friendly Regina and the city.
Each sign highlights actions that residents can take to help protect birds, including safer windows, selecting native plant species, reducing litter, and keeping cats leashed.
This initiative supports Regina’s Bird Friendly City designation, which was first earned from Nature Canada in 2022 and successfully renewed through 2026.
The city said this designation reflects a shared commitment to reducing human-related threats to birds, while supporting thriving habitats.
"Being recognized as a Bird Friendly City is a badge of honour for our community,” said Lacey Weekes of Nature Saskatchewan, Regina Bird Friendly City. “We have much to be proud of, but birds still need our help. We must take additional action to protect, defend and conserve their natural habitats, wildlife and overall biodiversity.”
The unveiling will take place on Saturday, July 12, at 1 p.m. in A.E. Wilson Park (Boreal Island entrance).
There will be family-friendly activities for visitors included, like pond dipping, a bird migration obstacle course, and a guided bird walk taking place at 2 p.m.
The first 50 attendees will receive a free native plant and a ‘Watch for Wildlife’ vehicle magnet.
