REGINA — The Regina Police Service (RPS) continues to remain silent over the suspension of Farooq Sheikh.
During a media scrum, Acting Regina Police Chief Lorilee Davies wouldn’t comment on any questions regarding the investigation.
Davies redirected any questions to the Board of Police Commissioners, who weren’t available to comment at their monthly board meeting.
Sheikh has been suspended since April 4th after a public complaint was made against him.
Since then, the RPS has provided no details on the matter. Around the same time as Sheikh's suspension, Alicia Morrow left the Board of Police Commissioners, which was confirmed by Mayor Chad Bachynski.
Morrow’s removal wasn’t reported on any documents, and it's unclear if the Board of Police Commissioners is required to provide details on the matter.
Later, her legal team confirmed with SaskToday that Morrow had made a complaint to the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) but wouldn't say for whom or if it was connected to Sheikh's suspension.
With a lack of transparency, Davies wouldn't say if she was frustrated by it. Instead, Davies will continue to trust the process in place.
Davies also said there hasn't been any questioning about the structure of the RPS.
“The community has confidence in the RPS to continue doing our job.”
Once the investigation is completed, the PCC will update the board on the matter. Further information will then be provided to the public.
