REGINA — A new art camp is helping children experience all facets of arts.
The V.I.B.E. Summer Arts Camp is being run by teachers Dallas Holtby and Darian Kaszas, who both love art and wanted to create an atmosphere that gets kids involved.
“One thing we’re doing is having kids work together and creating a collaborative art piece called VIBE, and they took some time working together to decide what they wanted their piece to look like and express themselves,” said Holtby.
Kaszas said this allows kids to expand on their creativity.
“When they’re at home, these kids are likely not doing these kinds of projects,” said Kaszas, mentioning how many children tend to be glued to their phones nowadays.
As a teacher, Kaszas also feels schools often lack opportunities for children to explore and express themselves.
One child participating in the camp is Lyle Wrigley, who loves painting and drawing.
Wrigley said his favourite part of the camp has been the food and meeting new people.
Holtby said that by allowing kids to meet new faces and work together, it helps them build life skills.
“They understand how to listen, work together, and be patient with respect.”
The camp is running from July 21 to 25 and July 28 to Aug. 1 at The Exchange in Regina.
Holtby said about 25 kids are participating in this week's group, and roughly 15 more are planning to show up next week.
The two teachers hope they can continue hosting the camp beyond this year.
