REGINA — The University of Regina is one of 18 post-secondary institutions in Canada to participate in the second cohort of the Dimensions Canada recognition program.
Per a media release, the program recognizes schools which seek to increase equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
“This is more than an institutional achievement. It is a national recognition of our deep and long-standing commitment to building a truly equitable, diverse, and inclusive community,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, U of R president.
“The program helps support equitable access to funding opportunities, increase equitable and inclusive participation, and embed EDI-related considerations in research design and practices.”
This program is supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
It’s designed to help institutions innovate their research culture. The goal is to foster research excellence, creativity and more, which can only thrive when every voice is heard, valued and empowered to play a role.
“For every member of our University community, this initiative will help create a more welcoming and supportive environment in our classrooms, labs, and offices,” said Keshen. “It will strengthen our ability to attract and retain top students and scholars from around the world, and enhance the impact of our research by ensuring it is informed by a diversity of perspectives.”
For the next 12 to 18 months, the U of R will start the next phase of this work and aim towards achieving stage 1 of the Dimensions Canada recognition program.
