REGINA – A Porter Airlines flight en route from Hamilton, Ont. to Vancouver, B.C. made an emergency landing at Regina International Airport (YQR) on Tuesday evening after a smoky odour was detected in the cabin.
Flight 483 was diverted to Regina around 8:20 p.m. as a precautionary measure. Although no visible smoke was reported, the flight crew opted to land to ensure passenger safety.
Regina Airport Authority activated its emergency response plan immediately. Emergency crews were on standby and responded promptly as the aircraft landed safely. All 91 passengers on board were safely escorted to the terminal without incident.
Following the landing, passengers were accommodated in local hotels overnight. Porter Airlines confirmed that travellers would continue their journey to Vancouver on a different aircraft the following day.
Airport officials stated that operations at YQR were not affected by the emergency landing and the airport remains fully operational.
Porter Airlines and Regina Airport Authority expressed gratitude to local emergency responders and mutual aid partners for their swift and coordinated efforts.
