REGINA - Regina’s city manager, Niki Anderson, has been placed on leave.
Per a motion as part of a special city council meeting, Anderson went on leave as of Tuesday, April 29.
Mayor Chad Bachynski said Anderson's leave was because of a personal reason.
Bachynski wouldn’t provide any further details on the leave.
City council went off camera for around 20 minutes to discuss the motion, with little discussion happening once they came back.
With the approval of the motion, city clerk Jim Nicol has taken over the role of acting city manager during Anderson’s leave.
Nicol was appointed acting city manager in 2022 for nine months after the firing of Chris Holden.
Bachynski said having Nichol in a role he’s worked in before is "helpful."
Nicol has been employed by the city since 2007 and will receive $240,000 paid throughout his tenure from his role.
Meanwhile, Amber Ackerman took the role of acting city clerk.
Ackerman joined the city in 2001 and has served in roles with the office of the city clerk since 2006.
Ackerman took the role of acting city clerk for nine months in 2022.
Anderson has served as city manager since 2022.
