Barb and Don Kostiuk of Saskatoon are $1,000,002 winners, after they scanned their Lotto Max ticket purchased at Greg’s Grocery.

SASKATOON — Barb and Don Kostiuk won $1,000,002 on Lotto Max.

The Saskatoon couple took their ticket in store to scan it and were stunned.

“I scanned it a couple times and thought, ‘This isn’t right!’” laughed Don. “So, I took it up to the cashier to scan and it came up as a $1 million winner.”

“I left the store and did jumping jacks,” he continued, laughing. “I went to the vehicle to tell my wife.”

“He’s not great at doing a happy dance,” Barb laughed. “We were both so excited.”

The Kostiuks said they are excited to help their son move back home to Saskatoon using their new winnings.

“We will get him back home, do some investing, and see what the next plans are,” explained Barb.

Don said the win feels like a gift.

“You dream about it—and then it happens,” he smiled. “At a little grocery store out in Saskatoon, when there are millions of people in Canada—it happened.”

The “little grocery store” where the Kostiuks purchased their winning Lotto Max ticket was Greg’s Grocery, located at 3501 11 St. W. in Saskatoon.

They won their prize by matching one of the Maxmillions prize selections in the Aug. 12 draw: 13, 21, 28, 36, 40, 49 and 50.
