Saskatoon police nab suspect after chase in stolen vehicle

The driver fleeing from police blew a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle.

Before officers could activate their emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed.

SASKATOON – A 52-year-old man is facing several charges after a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a collision and a foot chase.

According to Saskatoon Police Service, at bout 8:30 p.m., on Aug. 19, in the area of 20th Street West and Avenue D South, police observed a vehicle known to be stolen and involved in a robbery the previous day. 

Before officers could activate their emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, the driver blew a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle, say police. He then attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody. 

He is charged with evading police, dangerous driving, hit and run, driving while prohibited, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
