Weyburn is celebrating Culture Week in Saskatchewan with a celebration of the arts on September 23.

The Culture Days Celebration will be held in Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature art exhibits, demonstrations and displays by Weyburn-area artists. A special unveiling will take place at 1:30 p.m. by local artist Gordon Stairmand. He will unveil a painting in memory of Mildred Coghill.

"This event is happening to give our local arts, culture and heritage groups and individual artists in the community a chance to promote what they offer to the community through table displays, exhibits, promotional material, demonstrations and presentations," said arts and culture director for the City of Weyburn Alice Neufeld.

Neufeld said that anyone wishing to participate in the event should contact her at the Signal Hill Arts Centre prior to September 17.

Culture Days is a local, provincial and national celebration of culture that aims to increase the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in cultural activities in their communities. It includes all areas of culture: arts, heritage, multicultural, ethno-cultural, First Nations and Métis cultures and creative industries. Cultural Awareness Week in Saskatchewan takes place from September 20 to 26.

In the event that the weather is unfavourable, the Culture Days Celebration will be held upstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion.
