EDITORIAL: Please be considerate of others

Some people believe that most of what they need to know about living is learned by kindergarten (or by that age level). This would include learning concepts like sharing, taking turns, and consideration for others.

Some people believe that most of what they need to know about living is learned by kindergarten (or by that age level).

This would include learning concepts like sharing, taking turns, and consideration for others. This last concept is admittedly more difficult to teach, but is crucial as one gets older.

Some adults and teens may need to go back to kindergarten to learn this lesson, or at least to have a renewed understanding of what it means. Some of these people are pet owners, in particular dog owners.

Most dog owners are quite good about keeping control of their animal, taking them for walks and training them - but there are a few who have no consideration for the general public.

Among the problems that some dog owners cause is not picking up after one's animal. Whether the dog walker takes them out in the neighbourhood or through one of Weyburn's beautiful parks, the public does not want to see little brown presents on their lawns, and especially not when strolling through a park, enjoying the nice fresh air and natural beauty.

It takes very little effort to carry along a small plastic bag and use it to pick up the small brown presents so other people don't step in them or see them.

Another point of consideration is, when one is out with their dogs in public, especially at a public event where there are children, is to keep the dog or dogs on a leash. Besides being the law in Weyburn, it is also being considerate of others, as the dog or dogs may react or interact in a way that may cause problems.

For example, at a recent event, a person was bitten by a dog who was loose and off the leash; it doesn't really matter if the dog was provoked or in some way made excitable, the dog should have been in the control of its owner, and should not be out loose.

One of the best ideas to come along for the city was for a dog park; work has begun on it, and more needs to be done. Dog enthusiasts and owners should renew their efforts to have this park so there is opportunity to allow the dogs to roam off-leash.

For those with dogs elsewhere in the city, please consider the other person so we can all get along and live in peace.
