WEYBURN - Nearly Neil and The Solitary Band, starring Bobby Bruce, will be performing at the Weyburn Cugnet Centre on Thursday, January 13 at 7:30 p.m.
This concert is hosted by the Weyburn Concert Series.
Bobby Bruce is an award-winning, internationally celebrated Canadian vocalist whose Solitary Band concerts focus on Diamond's musical rise to fame.
“I am looking forward to performing in Weyburn,” said Bruce during a phone interview. “I like what the music does for people, as the content and lyrics bring back memories and help them to leave their problems behind.”
Earning the moniker "Nearly Neil" by the Australian press on his first tour of Australia, Bruce has spent the last 25 years headlining tours throughout Europe, Austral-Asia and North America. Audiences and critics alike have praised Bruce's luxurious opera-trained voice and emotionally connected performance of Diamond's songbook cementing his international appeal.
“When I first started performing, I was more impersonating Neil Diamond, and over time I decided to act more like myself, and less like Neil, and make it into a musical tribute to him. The show is now a cross between my enthusiasm of growing up with his songs and music, and sharing the stories of how Neil’s music affected my life.”
“I really hope the audience feels like they are listening to their 8-tracks, while traveling down the road, while attending the show. These songs should have a real nostalgia for Neil Diamond fans, and together we can share our collective memories,” added Bruce.
“This concert will be our little spin on hearing Neil Diamonds’ music all over again.”
Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band is an entirely live musical tribute to Neil Diamond. Everyone on stage is performing live and there are no pre-recorded additions. Bobby Bruce performs live, he does not lip-sync nor does he sing along with a Neil Diamond recording.
Over the past two decades Nearly Neil has proudly performed for every type of audience, from soft seat theatres, to dances, corporate events, charity fundraisers, grand openings, bar mitzvahs, weddings, house parties and even for royalty.
Bruce mentioned that he was looking forward to performing in front of a live crowd and this will be the first time since September that Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band has performed for a live audience.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Weyburn Review/Weyburn This Week office and Old Fashion Foods. Proof of vaccination is required to attend the concert.
