Recreational and artistic activities at the CU Spark Centre

WEYBURN - The City of Weyburn’s fall and winter leisure guide is available for the Credit Union Spark Centre and Leisure Centre, with a number of programs as well as drop-in times for sport and recreation uses.Some of the highlights for the month of September include some clay classes, with more coming in October.

A kids clay class for those aged six to 12 will be held on Sundays from 11 a.m. to noon, on Sept. 11, 18 and 25. A class to make a clay mug for those aged 16 and up will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A two-part class in decorative clay will introduce a process called sgraffito to participants aged 16 and over. This uses unfired almost dry clay on which you carve a design.

The classes will be held on Friday, Sept. 16 and 23 from 6 to 9 p.m.

There will be an art club held through the fall, with a date set for Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 9-11:30 a.m. The same day, curator Regan Lanning will hold an art gallery talk and tour from noon to 1 p.m.

A sports jam program will be available for children throughout the fall, with Friday dates in September on the 9th, 16th and 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

There will also be an adult rec volleyball league in October, and drop-in times will be available for basketball, pickleball, volleyball, track and gym.

New will be drop-in times for Sepak Takraw, a sport from southeast Asia also known as kick volleyball. This drop-in time will be on Fridays from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. in the mini-gym on the upper level.
