Weyburn Comp musical ‘The Wedding Singer’ ready to rock stage

The musical version of “The Wedding Singer” is set to open on the Cugnet Centre stage on Friday, May 26, at 7 p.m. for the first of four performances.

WEYBURN – The musical version of “The Wedding Singer” is set to open on the Cugnet Centre stage on Friday, May 26, at 7 p.m. for the first of four performances at the Weyburn Comprehensive School.

The musical will also be a matinee show on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m., then two more evening performances, on Monday, May 29, and Wednesday, May 31, both at 7 p.m.

There are two casts who are performing the musical production, which had a delay from their original show dates due to water damage on the stage.

In ‘The Wedding Singer’, the lead character, Robbie, heads up a band that plays at weddings. He is left at the altar for his own wedding, while a waitress at the first wedding he plays at, Julia, gets engaged to her boyfriend Glen.

Robbie is enlisted to play at her wedding, but they discover later that Glen was cheating on Julia, and that Robbie has fallen in love with Julia.

For Cast A, Robbie is played by Owen Burdan; Julia is played by Lindsay VanDeWeyer; her friend Holly is Ivy Ling; Glen is played by Emerson Jack; Robbie’s grandmother Rosie is played by Carlee Wade (in both casts); his former fiancée, Linda, was Brittany Barber, and Angie is played by Mitzi Recto.

In Cast B, Liam Evans plays Robbie, and Kailyn McFadden is Julia, with her best friend Natalie Butz as Holly, and Glen is played by Tauren Jack. Linda is played by Calla Hrynewich, and Carys Moffatt is Angie.

The cast chorus includes Payton Brenholen, Nia Cleasby, Ella Leko, Selah Johnson, Jyllian Payak, Calla Hrynewich, Camryn Greve, Bianca Primero, Kaitlyn Wallin, Danielle Pallarka, Merry Ghebremeskel, Jasmine Fedak, Semi Kaur, Aubrey Lincoln, Dominic Mejia, Travis Benning, John Barretto, Cara Johnson, Rio Lopez and Klaira Leong.
