WEYBURN - The Weyburn branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will host a “You’ve Got Talent” contest in September, with cash prizes offered for the top performers.

The Legion invites all local individuals and groups, regardless of their age, who possess an amazing talent suitable for the stage, to electronically audition for one of 24 spots in a talent competition.

The winner of the “Weyburn and Area, You’ve Got Talent” competition will receive a $500 cash prize and the opportunity to show off their talent onstage at the Legion Oktoberfest to be held Oct. 15.

To enter, all competitors must apply by completing and submitting an official entry form, an audition video clip and a $10 registration fee.

All entry forms, video clips and registration fees must be received at the Weyburn Legion Branch on Aug. 14, no later than 11:59 p.m., for the individual or group to be eligible for the competition.

Entrants are asked to complete an official entry form which includes the contestant’s name, address, phone number, and parental permission (if the contestant is a minor). Entry forms will be available by e-mailing a request to Legion47@sasktel.net or by picking up a paper copy in the Legion Lounge.

E-mail a 60 second clip including your name, a quick explanation of your talent, and a 30-second sample of the performance to Legion47@sasktel.net. Clips are considered valid if submitted on a flash drive and mailed or hand delivered to the Secretary-Manager of the Weyburn Legion at 150 3rd St NE, Weyburn SK, S4H 0W2.

Entries need to include a non-refundable $10 entry fee. This fee will be returned in the event that the competition is cancelled. Information on how this fee can be paid is included on the official entry form.

The selection process will involve a committee of Legion board executive, who will watch and rate all entries. The executive will watch the audition tapes independent of each other and select their top 24 contestants.

The secretary manager will then amalgamate the executives’ results to determine the final 24 contestants. Contestants will be advised on Aug. 25 that they have been selected to compete.

The competition will start on Wednesday, Sept. 7, and continues each Wednesday in September, with six contestants from the top 24 to perform for a panel of four local celebrity judges.

The top two contestants from each Wednesday night in September, based on the judge’s selection, will compete on Oct. 5, and the final celebrity judge panel will select the top four contestants.

From Oct. 6 to 11, Weyburn and area will vote on the winner of the final four contestants. Voting can only be done in person at the Weyburn Legion Lounge during any open hours.

The final four contestants will perform on Oct. 12, where the winner will be announced.

The first place winner will receive $500 and will perform on Oct. 15, at the Weyburn Legion Oktoberfest.

The second place winner will receive a $50 consolation prize, and the third and fourth place winners will each receive a $25 consolation prize.
