A&W opened its Assiniboia location on First Avenue West on May 5. The long lines on opening day showed that the location has already proven popular for residents and those passing through on the highway. The fast food chain has been looking to set up in Assiniboia for some time. It had its eye on Assiniboia for the past five years but couldn’t find a suitable location.
“Last spring, we saw the mall was empty so we got started,” said Jason Peters, senior director of operations. He has been in Assiniboia training staff and overseeing management before the opening.
This A&W location is a franchise of Canalta Food Services which aims to set up locations in rural markets. “We love being part of the community,” said Peters.
The new restaurant offers drive through, walk in and take out food service. Customers will see the classic offerings on the menu with its slate of famous burgers and sides of fries, onion rings and signature Root Beer. The chain has also tweaked the menu to respond to the changing tastes of Canadians with chicken burgers, grilled chicken, chicken strips and Chubby Chicken and a Veggie Deluxe burger option. Following another consumer trend, Assiniboia’s A&W offers all-day breakfast food, focusing on egg dishes. Classics like pancakes and bacon and eggs are on the menu as well as several sandwich combos.
A&W is Canada’s second most popular fast food establishment. A&W Canada has not had corporate connections outside of Canada since 1972.
