CARLYLE - Effective Nov. 15, Chang and Julie Yoo will become the new owners of Carlyle FamilyFoods. The Observer had the opportunity to meet the newcomers in person and have provided some background.

The Yoos were born and raised in South Korea and moved to Saskatoon in 2008. Starting in 2009, they owned and operated a franchise for The Great Canadian Bagel for 5 1/2 years. They then purchased a grocery store located in Hague, just north of Saskatoon. This spring, they sold that business and have been on the lookout for other opportunities.

An offer to purchase the Carlyle FamilyFoods grocery store was accepted and they are eagerly looking forward to this new challenge.

Chang, who is 53, and Julie, 47, have already purchased a home in Carlyle on Fourth Street East. They have one child, Elly, who has just graduated from high school and is now attending the University of Toronto.

Julie was working at a company which specializes in costume design in South Korea.

At this time, the Yoos have no plans to change any facets of the business. Their entire staff of 15-16 people will remain intact, as will their weekly flyer and regular hours of business. The Yoos are excited to start this new chapter in their lives and look forward to meeting all of their customers.

Their slogan is “I Love Local!” and Carlyle and the surrounding area wishes them well.
