The City of Estevan has moved forward on a couple of fronts regarding economic development initiatives. The first is the hiring of Dwight Bramble as the new economic development co-ordination.

Every year for the past three years around mid-August Saskatchewan’s active drilling rig numbers hit the mid- to high-30s in count, according to Rig Locator (riglocator.ca). In 2016, they climbed after that point, in 2015, they dropped.

It’s July 26, before five a.m., and Fast Trucking Service’s crew have already assembled at a wellsite south of Frobisher. The last time Pipeline News did a feature on Fast Trucking, it was common for rig moves to start at 7 a.m.

Local youths learned about the newspaper business, the ads that appear in newspapers each week, and the different businesses in the community through this year’s Art in Advertising Camp at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum.

The number of active drilling rigs in Saskatchewan saw a small bump on Aug. 23, with Rig Locator’s (www.riglocator.ca) numbers going to 43 from 38 the day before.

Enbridge’s Line 3 Replacement Program (L3RP) announced construction started in the first week of August, but don’t expect to see much going on in southeast Saskatchewan this year.

Three Farmers Products has been nominated for a Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Achievement for Business Excellence Award. The business is a finalist for the Export Award.

The Estevan No Frills location is raising money for the Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion through its annual Give a Little, Help a Lot fundraiser.
