The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan is currently promoting a learning series, which is aimed at educating caregivers and family members about dementia and Alzheimer's.

On April 2 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Assistant Professor Neulle Novik with the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Regina will be holding a seminar titled "Adjusting your attitude towards grief and loss."

Novik will speak about the unique circumstances to which caregivers and family members of individuals with Alzheimer's will experience grief and loss. It is a way to help become acquainted with the process of the disease. The session will also help provide ways to better deal with the progression of the disease for those who are watching someone go through it.

On May 7 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Evangeline Patkau, First Link Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan will be presenting, "It doesn't help to spin your wheels... Providing day-to-day care for someone with dementia."

Patkau's presentation is aimed at family and caregivers. It is intended to cover topics such as the strategies for communication, guidelines for daily living, and the importance of purpose driven activities.

Both the Novik and the Patkau sessions are offered in Saskatoon and Regina. In order RSVP contact Evangaline at (306)683-0141 at the Saskatoon City Rependa Centre or Mike at (306)949-4141 to RSVP at the Regina Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Auditorium.
