The fourth annual Assiniboia and District Fire Department’s Firefighters Ball takes place on Saturday, February 25 at the Prince of Wales Centre in Assiniboia.
The semi-formal evening includes a full program and it is a chance to see Assiniboia’s finest in their dress uniforms. The evening will feature cocktails, dinner, a silent auction and a dance with music provided by the group “Third Degree Birnz”, as well as awards given out to deserving firefighters. Between 20 and 25 items have been donated to the silent auction by SaskTel, SaskPower and local businesses.
The goal of the Firefighters Ball is to recognize volunteer firefighters and to support the department’s fundraising efforts for equipment. “This is the fourth year for the event and it is a major fundraiser for the department,” said Assiniboia Fire Chief Chuck Rust. He noted that all of the proceeds from the ball are going towards the compressed air foam system for the rescue truck. The rescue truck is commonly used at accident scenes. The compressed foam is used to extinguish vehicle fires.
The ball is being organized by the Assiniboia and District Fire Department, which is made up of voluntary firefighters. Assiniboia’s firefighters have held other events to raise funds. For example, back in October the Assiniboia Fire Department held an open house at  their fire hall and donated the funds to MS research.
