City of Weyburn proclaims National Legion Week, Rail Safety Week

The City of Weyburn issued two proclamations on Monday evening, to recognize National Legion Week, and Rail Safety Week.

WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn issued two proclamations on Monday evening, to recognize National Legion Week, and Rail Safety Week.

Weyburn Legion executive members Jerry Ponto and Conni Fowler, along with sergeant-at-arms Owen White, were presented with a copy of the proclamation for National Legion Week by Mayor Marcel Roy at city council on Monday night.

National Legion Week will be observed from Sept. 17 to 21, and will include a meet-and-greet with veterans on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Weyburn Legion.

All members of the community are invited to come out and honour those who serve. The Legion will be serving free coffee and cinnamon buns and will have items on display.

In addition, City of Weyburn safety officer Abby Kradovill was presented with the proclamation for Rail Safety Week, signed by Mayor Roy at Monday’s council meeting.

The week will be observed on Sept. 18-24.

Kradovill noted there are five major rail crossings in Weyburn, and signs will be posted by City of Weyburn public works employees to remind the public of the importance of safety at all crossings.
