As the month of August winds down, staff at Southeast Regional College are gearing up for the annual influx of students starting their post?secondary studies.
"We will start seeing students in September," Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator Dave Harazny said. "The majority of our full?time programs and Adult Basic Education programs around the region will begin after the Labour Day weekend."
"September is an exciting month because we get to meet all the new students. With our small class sizes, everyone gets to know everyone - staff, students, and instructors included," said Harazny.
Each class spends the first day in a college orientation. A typical orientation for SIAST programs includes student and staff introductions, a College tour, and a special visit from SIAST program heads.
The College will be running a total of eight full?time trades and career training programs throughout the southeast region, including Continuing Care Assistant in Whitewood (Oct. 4), Electrician in Moosomin (Oct. 25), Electrician in Weyburn (Oct. 12), Hairstylist in Estevan (Sept. 8), Office Education in Weyburn (Sept. 7), Power Engineering Technician in Estevan (Aug. 30), Primary Care Paramedic in Estevan (Oct. 2), and Welding in Weyburn (Sept. 7). "We've had great response this year in terms of enrolment, but there are a few seats left in our
Hairstylist, Office Education, and Continuing Care Assistant programs," added Harazny, "which means there is still time for those who still haven't made up their mind on what career to pursue. We also have a variety of Distance Learning options as well as part?time courses for people who prefer to study on a part?time evening and week?end basis. If you consider all the different types of programs we run from trades and career training to English as Another Language (EAL) programming to business and industry courses, we expect to receive approximately 9,500 registrations region?wide this year."
