ESTEVAN — There will be no shortage of activities happening in the Estevan area during the coming weekend.

It starts with the Estevan Oilfield Technical Society's Oilwomen's Golf Tournament on July 18 at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course. The Texas scramble tournament has been sold out for a month and serves as a fundraiser for a community organization.

Estevan city council will host a special meeting at noon at city hall July 18 to discuss a potential apartment development on Wellock Road.

One provincial softball and two provincial baseball tournaments are scheduled to begin on July 18. The Softball Saskatchewan U15 B – South tournament will take place from July 18-20 at the Jody Waloshin Softball Diamonds in northwest Estevan. Nine teams are entered, including the host Estevan Elite and the Southeast Supernovas.

The Elite faced the Weyburn Wild at 9:30 a.m. July 18 in the tournament opener. They will also play the Assiniboia Aces at 6:30 p.m. that evening, and play twice more the following day: against the Yorkton Crush at 8:30 a.m. and the Lumsden Cubs at 1:30 p.m.

The Supernovas play July 18 at 11:30 a.m. against the Storm Twisters; and then July 19 at 8:30 a.m. against the Moose Jaw Ice and at 4 p.m. versus the Swift Current Sonic.

Opening ceremonies are at 6 p.m. on July 18. Playoffs will be July 20, with semifinals at 8:30 a.m., the bronze medal game at 11 a.m. and the gold medal game at 1:30 p.m.

Eight more teams will compete in the U11 AA Tier 2B tournament. The Estevan AA Brewers will play the White Butte Broncos White on July 18 at 6:15 p.m., while on July 19, they face the Saskatoon Cardinal Knights at noon and the Regina Buffalos at 6 p.m.

Playoffs will include potential tie-breakers at 9 a.m., with semifinals at noon and the gold-medal game at 3 p.m.

As for July 19, the Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club will host the Swim Saskatchewan South Semifinals, starting at 9 a.m. at the Access Communication Aquatic Centre. Clubs from throughout the south are expected to be at the event in an effort to qualify for provincials.

The Estevan Elks Lodge will host a golf tournament at the Hidden Valley Golf and RV Resort's Hideout Golf Course. The morning tee-off will be at 10 a.m. and an afternoon round is at 1 p.m. Supper will be served afterwards. The Texas scramble tournament will be a fundraiser for the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation's MRI for Estevan campaign.

The Estevan Motor Speedway will host the annual Riley Raynard's Dirt Wars doubleheader, starting at 7 p.m. July 19 and 6 p.m. July 20. The driver with the most points in the hobby stock class after the two races is the winner. Raynard competed in the hobby stock class for a decade despite having Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The first night will be a tribute to the late Richard Mann, who was a long-time racer and supporter of racing in Estevan. The second night will be kids' night.

The Downtown Business Association's annual Street Dance is July 19 in the 1100-block of Fourth Street. Southeast cover band The Sad Dadz will be the opening act, and Weyburn musician Brayden King, who successfully auditioned for American Idol, will be the feature act.

It will be the first marquee event in the downtown area since the downtown revitalization project began in the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Fourth Street last year.
