The Canadian Pacific Railway's Holiday Train will be making its stop in Weyburn on Friday, Dec. 17, at 7:45 p.m. at 512 Railway Street. This is the 12th year that the CP Holiday Train has traveled to communities, while collecting food and raising both money and awareness for food banks in those communities.

Residents are encouraged to arrive at the Holiday Train event as early as 7 p.m., to ensure parking availability. The Holiday Train provides a box car stage with a lineup of musical talents, and a corporate donation to the local food bank, and the community is urged to also bring donations of food or money for the food bank.

Since the Holiday Train's inception in 1999, more than $4.8 million and 2.3 million pounds of food have been collected throughout Canada and the United States.

The Weyburn Salvation Army will have a van parked near the Holiday Train's stop and will be accepting food donations of all kinds from Weyburn residents. They are always in need of food donations, especially during the holiday season.

Every year, the Holiday Train stops in cities throughout southern Canada and northern United States with a host of musical talent. The train stops briefly in communities to collect food and cash donations as well as to entertain the residents from the box car stage with the talent of the musicians aboard the train.

A presentation of a cash donation from CP Rail employees will also be made to the Salvation Army during their Weyburn stop, just prior to the entertainment taking the stage.

There are two Holiday Trains that travel each year one that journeys across Canada, and a second that travels through the U.S. Midwest. It is the second that travels into Canada, with its final stop in Weyburn. The talent on the Holiday Train this year is Melanie Doane, a Halifax-born Juno Award winner; and Kelly Prescott, who is releasing a solo album in January.
