Across Canada people gathered on Sunday, Sept. 15, to take part in the annual Terry Fox Run. Supporting friends and family, remembering those lost to cancer, and raising money for cancer research; people of all walks of life and of all ages became involved.

This included 22 people and one dog who took part in the annual Terry Fox Run held at Kenosee.

Those interested in taking part in the run began registering at 10 a.m. in Club 19 at Golf Kenosee and by 10:30 a.m. all were outside ready to walk for cancer.

This year organizer, Jackie Doty, took the group for a 5 km walk around the Beaver Lake Trail, then up the hill past the ball diamonds back to Club 19.

The Kenosee Terry Fox Run was first held in 1985. It was started under Melody Nagel, who was succeeded by Erma McRae in 1990, Tricia Miller in 2000, and Doty since 2001.

During this time, 1985 to 2012, the Kenosee Terry Fox Run raised a total of $48,939.18. Adding to this the 2013 total of approximately $1,500, as donations continue to come into the Kenosee walkers.

Every year the Kenosee Terry Fox Run remembers someone who lost their battle with cancer. This year each participant was given a small red heart to carry with them in memory of Cienna Friesen of Wawota who passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7 at seven-years-old.

"Cienna lost her battle with cancer last week," Doty explained. "That little heart that was given out today, we remember somebody every year, and this year we'll think of her. Although I didn't know her and I don't know her mom I can only imagine what she's going through."
