Meagan Milatz competed in the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association's provincial competition, held in Moose Jaw over the June 3-5 weekend, and Meagan came away as a top winner.

On the first day of competition, Saskatchewan's team was chosen to represent the province at nationals, which will be held in Antigonish, N.S., on Aug. 11-12. Meagan was chosen to be the province's representative for piano.

In Nova Scotia, Meagan will play Prokofiev Concerto No. 3 accompanied by her teacher, Cherith Alexander, and a piece by Chopin called Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante.

The second day of competition saw Meagan win three out of four classes that she entered. She placed first in the Senior Beethoven class, Senior Chopin class and Senior 20th Century Music class.

On Saturday evening, the adjudicators picked the top two players from each discipline (piano, voice, strings, woodwinds and brass) to compete in the Grand Awards concert, held on Sunday. From the performances on Sunday, the adjudicators chose Meagan as the most outstanding competitor of the Grand Awards concert.

Meagan will be graduating from the Weyburn Comp and attending McGill University in the fall, to pursue a degree in piano performance. She is the daughter of Paul and Brenda Milatz of Weyburn.
