Miss World Canada will be riding in a convertible through the streets of Weyburn at the Chamber of Commerce Fair Parade on Monday, June 30.
Canada's queen Annora Bourgeault said she is excited to ride in the parade as her grandma, Marie Bourgeault is a Weyburn resident. Her father, Gil Bourgeault is also a hometown boy.
"My dad will be so excited to bring me back to his hometown. My grandma will probably bring all of her friends out to the parade," she said in a phone interview.
Bourgeault, who is currently working towards becoming a doctor of counselling psychology, won the pageant title in the Mother's Day event at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey, B.C.
As an advocate for multiculturalism, Bourgeault volunteers as an international student aid, welcoming new students to Canada.
She also has an interest in music, achieving her Grade 9 Performance and Grade 3 Harmony Certificate from the Royal Conservatory as well as playing guitar and violin, singing and song writing.
"My goal was to be in the top 16, and they just kept calling my name and calling my name. I was holding the other girl's hand and was thinking 'I'm in the top 2'. Then when my name was called, I was so shocked," she said.
The 21-year-old didn't even have a change to let the title of Miss World Canada sink in before she was packing up for a photo session with the other contestants.
Being crowned Canada's Queen, Regina's Annora Bourgeault said it was a wonderful Mother's Day present for her mom.
"Oh my, gosh, she was crying."
On her Facebook page after the competition, Bourgeault wrote: "I am so thankful, shocked, and excited to tell all of you that I have been crowned Miss World Canada 2014! I will never be able to express the gratitude I have for all of your support this past year on this journey, YOU ALL made this happen and for that I am truly thankful."
This will be a year to remember for Bourgeault. She has been to Alberta, and the pageant was the first trip to British Columbia. With a tour of the country on the itinerary for the remainder of the year, she will have some amazing opportunities.
"I think travelling is important, for everyone, but for the younger generation especially."
Bourgeault will also be heading to the Philippines, where she has been invited to help pageant organizers transform the event from a beauty pageant to more of a development program.
"They want it to be more reflective of Canada's pageant," she explained. "Canada is all about development. They want girls who have a career, are smart, want to get involved and fundraise, and get involved in their community."
Appearing in one other pageant at the age of 18, Bourgeault said she would encourage other young people to get involved.
Bourgeault will represent Canada at Miss World 2014, in London, England in November. She is the second woman from Regina to represent Canada at the Miss World Pageant. The 2013 winner was Camille Munro.
