Recently the Moose Mountain Lions Club have worked towards gathering a number of cross-country skis and snowshoes in order to rent to the public for a small fee. The rentals are good for the day and cost $10 in order to keep up with maintenance and replace worn equipment in the future.

Through grants given to them by the Bear Claw Community Development Corporation, Southeast Connection Recreation Equipment Program, and the Moose Mountain Provincial Park they had most of the funds needed to go through with the decision to provide a rental service. The Lions then fundraised as well and with the help of the Kenosee Inn who is facilitating rentals are able to offer this service. They were able to accumulate 10 pairs of snowshoes and 25 pairs of skis that are currently available to rent.

There is a large selection, so something is bound to fit. This includes a variety of youth sizes as families often enjoy the trails in the park together.

A number of different businesses in the area have previously offered this service and with no one taking it on as of late the Lions decided they would figure out a way to keep rentals available. Kenosee Inn is storing and taking care of the transactions concerning the rentals as a favour to the community, which the Lions are immensely thankful for.

If interested in renting a pair of skis or snowshoes simply stop by the front desk of the Kenosee Inn to fill out a waiver and pick up the gear. Ski boots do come with the skis, but if interested in snowshoeing it is important to remember your own winter boots.

"We are happy to be able to offer the rentals," Tamara Kapell, a Lions member, explained.

"We have such good trails in the area, which are groomed. I was just out the other day. It can also be such a fun family activity to do in the winter."

Moose Mountain Provincial Park boasts two snowshoe specific trails and a number of cross country ski trails, which are regularly maintained and groomed. There are approximately 50 km of cross-country trails and 10 km of snowshoe trails. Maps are available online at saskparks.net, then searching for Moose Mountain Provincial Park.
