All ages can enjoy a fun-filled day of being active and outside during the Lions Winter Carnival as this youth did at a past Lions Carnival.

On Saturday, March 2, the Moose Mountain Lions are excited to host their third annual Winter Carnival.

They have a number of family fun events planned for the day and are excited to be able to offer the event with an abundance of snow on the ground this year.

The day will begin at Moose Mountain Church of Christ where pancakes will be served between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Everyone eight and under will eat for $5 while those over eight will eat for $10.

This will be followed by a number of fun activities beginning at noon including a cross country ski derby, a snowmobile derby, and a pond hockey tournament.

The cross country derby will start at Little Kenosee, with ski and snowshoe rentals available at the Kenosee Inn for $10. People entering the derby can buy a hand of cards for $5 or three hands for $10. The Lions are offering food and drink on the trial for this event.

Registration for the snowmobile derby will be held at Moose Mountain Church of Christ. Again card hands will cost $5 per hand or $10 for three hands. Food and drink will be found along this trail as well.

There will be a pond hockey tournament beginning at noon. This will be a three versus three format with a maximum of six skaters on a team. Registration for the tournament is $100 and people are asked to contact Tamara Kapell at 577-9763 to inquire about spots available.

Also, available during the Winter Carnival is a separate rink open to family skating.

A beef on a bun supper will then be held starting with cocktails at 5 p.m. and supper at 6:30 p.m. This will be held at the Kenosee Rec Hall followed by a cabaret featuring a live band, Moose Mountain Daredevils. Entrance to the cabaret will cost $10 and this is where the prizes from the day will be handed out, which are being sponsored by Fresh Air Experience based out of Regina.

The event is considered one of the Moose Mountain Lions' biggest fundraisers of the year with the other being their annual golf tournament.

Previously the Lions have used funds to purchase snow shoes and cross country skis in order to rent them out to people wanting them, they've helped raise money to build a playground at village beach, and have a number of ideas for the upcoming year which are to be decided on.
