The Weyburn District Regional Planning Commission recently announced that the City and R.M. of Weyburn have jointly entered into an agreement with a landowner that will add to the inventory of available residential and commercial land.

"Both the City Council and RM Council have passed complementary motions that will expedite the process needed for this development to happen," says Reeve Carmen Sterling, R.M. of Weyburn.

The City of Weyburn has been short on commercial properties and has been experiencing a high number of vacancies over the last few years, according to Mayor Debra Button.

"With the latest census data illustrating that our growth rate is exceeding other major cities in the province, we knew we had to add capacity for more growth," said Button. "We want everyone to know that Weyburn is open for business."

The land that will be annexed into the city is located on the south side of Highway 13 east. It is the quarter section that is right up against the city limits. The parcel is NE 22-8-14.

The Weyburn District Regional Planning Commission is an inter-municipal body made-up of representatives from the City, R.M., Chamber of Commerce, and private landowners with a mandate to do long-term land use planning for the region.
