Lake Alma (cpd) - Hermod and Bjorg Monsen from Skien, Norway arrived at the airport in Calgary on July 18. With them were their daughter Trine Monsen, Henning Borgersen and their children Havard and Astrid.
Lake Alma (cpd) - Hermod and Bjorg Monsen from Skien, Norway arrived at the airport in Calgary on July 18. With them were their daughter Trine Monsen, Henning Borgersen and their children Havard and Astrid. They were met at the airport by Stacy Hagen and Bjorg's cousin, Harold and Wanda Naess. Bjorg's Grandma Anna was a sister to the late John B. Hansen.
The next day Trine and family spent the day with Stacey while Zhermod and Bjorg visited with her cousin. Stacey took her guests to the Calgary Tower and then to the Cross Iron Mall for shopping. All six of the visitors had supper with Stacey at her home in Calgary.
The Monsen's spent some days at the Red Deer River Ranches owned by Don and Esther Hansen near Sundre, Alta. Many of the Hansen family gathered at the ranch on July 21 for visiting and a roast beef meal prepared by Esther.
From Sundre, the Norwegians drove to The Pas, Man. to visit with some of Hermod's family who live there. They stayed in a cabin owned by one of the relatives. On their way to The Pas they stopped in Saskatoon and were overnighters with Palmer and Marg Hansen. Also visiting with them that evening were Clifford and Debbie Hansen and Curtis and Janice Haugen.
The visitors arrived at Wayne and Dolores Hagen's farm on July 29. On August 1 the Monsens and Hagens drove to Medora, North Dakota. They toured around Medora which included seeing a herd of over 250 buffalo. They ate at the "pitch-fork fondue" and attended the Medora Musical.
The six Norwegians visited with Lloyd and Lauretta Hansen at Oungre on July 31.
Hermod and Bjord stayed overnight and plans were for them to meet Trine and family and the Hagens in Lake Alma on August 1 to go to Medora. Three miles east of Lake Alma on Highway #18 the rental car Hermod was driving hit a huge pothole causing some damage to the oil pan.
The oil leaked out and many parts from underneath the car fell off upon impact with the pothole. The rental car was no longer driveable.
Hermod was unable to swerve to avoid hitting the pothole because of an oncoming vehicle. Many stopped to offer help; and a few residents phoned the Hagen's to let them know what had happened. Others brought Bjorg to Lake Alma to wait for her daughter and the Hagens to arrive.
Emergency Roadside Assistance was called after the rental agency was notified. They later found out that Hertz's Roadside Assistance headquarters are in Oklahoma.
Those in that office couldn't understand where the vehicle was situated so they could call for a tow truck. Six days later, on August 8 and many phone calls, Top Notch Towing of Weyburn was notified and the car was towed to Regina. The pothole has since been repaired.
There was another family gathering at Oungre Park on Aug. 3. A great many of the Hansen family from Oungre, Lake Alma, Torquay, Midale, Regina, Weyburn, Estevan, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Virden, Man. were able to attend. Coffee and goodies were served in the afternoon and later a potluck supper including barbecued hamburgers was served.
The Monsens drove to Lang on Aug. 4 to meet with relatives on Hermod's side of the family and that evening they drove to Regina to stay with Hermod's second cousin, Larry and Cris Bristol.
The Hagens were in Regina again on Aug. 7. They had lunch together with Jared and Janelle Hagen, Krystal, Aubrey and Atticus Moore and the Norwegian visitors. Some attended the IMAX theatre in the afternoon and also the RCMP Heritage Museum. That evening, Wayne and Dolores, Krystal, Aubrey and Atticus, Larry and Cris Bristol and the six Norwegians attended the Sunset ceremony at the RCMP Depot.
The six Norwegians visitors flew from Regina airport, Aug. 8 back to Norway and on Aug. 9 the Hagens received the news they had arrived home safely.
Krystal, Evan, Aubrey and Atticus Moore of Regina spent the Aug. 3rd weekend with her parents, Wayne and Dolores Hagen and were able to visit with the Norwegian relatives. They attended the family gathering at Oungre Park.
Clare and Ida Offet traveled to Regina on Aug. 10 where they had a short visit with Suzanne Brown before attending the Canada Post Heritage Club Golden Sheaf Chapter annual summer barbecue at Regina Seniors Center.
Clare and Ida were overnighters with Marie and Donald Jacobson and after having breakfast out they visited with Craig and Charmaine Offet and Courtney before returning home.
Lorraine Roysum left Weyburn on July 22 with Deb and Kitch Milford of Carstairs, Alta. Lorraine visited with her grandson, Riley and Teresa Milford and boys, her sister Jeanette Hudon in Calgary, Alta.; her sister, Phyllis White at Salem, Oregon; brother Jim and Jane Toso at Campbell River, B.C.; grandson Chad and Heather Milford and family from the Yukon who were at Comox, B.C., visiting Heather's mother there; Maureen and Phip Tachit at Vernon, B.C.; and then returned to Carstairs. Lorraine returned home to Weyburn on Aug. 12.
Cory and Cherie Roysum and family joined Jarrod and Christie Skuce and family of Estevan on Aug. 7 for a camping trip to Riding Mountain. They returned home on Aug. 14. Kaybree Fonstad of Oxbow spent from Aug. 9 to 11 with grandma Elaine and grandpa Garnet Roysum at the farm. Elaine took her back on Sunday night and had a sleep over with Kaybree and Olivia and returned home on Aug. 12.
St. Blase Catholic Church held their annual church picnic on Aug. 11. Mass was held with the picnic in the Lake Alma Park following. A potluck barbecue with about 30 people was held and then relay games were played by adults and children.
Kevin and Bernice Bloor and Michelle, Sophie, Madison and Claire Walkeden had supper at Brady and Katie Bloor's on Aug. 11 to help Alex Bloor celebrate her fourth birthday.
The children had wagon rides pulled by their miniature pony.
Elaine Roysum and Wanda Johnson traveled to Weyburn on Aug. 15 where they joined Avis Field, Mable Larsen, Jeanette Whitteron, Darlene LaFoy and Ida Offet at the Town and Country Restaurant for supper to help Ida celebrate her birthday which is on Aug. 18.
Delores Larsen of Weyburn accompanied her daughter Myrna Lohse and her daughter Melissa on a shopping get-away to Minot, North Dakota on Aug. 10. They returned home to Beaubier the next day and Duane Larsen picked up his wife returning to Weyburn that evening.
Kevin and Bernice Bloor spent the August long weekend camping at Thompson Lake near Gravelburg. They were joined by six of Bernice's siblings and their families. About 45 people attended the reunion and plans were made for next year.
